I need to get a banker's draft and was wondering how much notice the bank requires. Can I just walk in and get one or do I need to "order in advance"

I have certainly been able to walk into a NatWest and get a bankers draft - it usually takes them about 20 minutes to prepare though.

Fantastic! thanks for the info..
just go into your bank and ask, they will give it to you straight away and usually charge a tenner for the pservice, well barclays do.

I phoned my branch of Natwest and asked just this, they said "give us 2 hours" but I didn't need it any more.

The cheeky beggars tried to charge me 12 for not picking up even though I hadn't actually ordered it!!!!

My experience of Natwest was that they told me that bank drafts are a rare breed now - apparently they take just as long to clear as a cheque which really surprised me especially considering the 12 charge. Depending what it's for consider a CHAPS transfer - it is a same day payment so the recipient will receive the money within minutes of the bank issuing the payment instruction
