Thanks for answer to 26 down, late, but don't get 'pear' for drop when you shoot. I can see pear drop but what about the shoot bit? Tear drop seems equally good. Perhaps I'm just tired as it's late.

I don't know if it's of any help. A tear drop is a name of a shot in basketball.

I am irritated by the Sunday compiler's obsession with putting words/phrases in inverted commas:

Cryptic 2312 - 22/1/06 - 10a, 18a, 19a, 6d, 26d.

It does nothing to clarify the clue/answer.

I rather liked 22a though

I meant to add as a helpful suggestion, that it would be better to add extra messages on the same thread by inputting under Post an Answer. It is harder to connect when you send individually as you did at 22.46, 22.56. 23.52

Thanks to everyone, and for the advice re inputting under 'post an answer. Yes, the 'inverted commas obsession' (!) is irritating and yes, I enjoyed 22 across too
Hi Christiana - I reckon 'tear' as in 'dash', eg tear or shoot down the road.
