Hi mickey, just read a book on mother Teresa, if it is to be believed she was no saint or angel just a money grabbing woman.
Small point. During the years she was in government, there were no Tory MP's in Scotland this would be from her second term onwards. Eventually they got one, even now the Tories have a hard time getting elected, for those in favour of independence she was the best thing that could have happened as it really did seem as if we were ruled by a government for which we did not vote, which played right into the hands of the nationalists.
As Mikey said, she devastated Wales, she did the same up here.
nungate, she did the same to the West Midlands.
There you are Tony. Her policies took us from a nation that made things and exported them to a nation of service industries - all those muddy bankers with their "loadsamoney" and no morals (in the sense of greed is good etc.)
and look where we are now. There are so many avenues of what went wrong in this country to explore that there is simply not enough time or space here on AB (or elsewhere) to expand and go deeper into the rights and wrongs of the policies of our governments from the end of the last war to the present.
nungate, she decimated industry in my area, and we haven't got over it, I doubt if we ever will.
That's my point Tony, I've often felt that England stopped at Watford and Britain at Newcastle. Everything is now centred in the south east to the detriment of the rest of the country. Riots in Liverpool, Bristol etc during her time in office, then there's the poll tax.....enough said.
Yep, you have hit the nail on the head there nungate.
she decimated industry.....

No, dogamtic, out of control unions made industry unviable in this country. Lazy workers turning out sh!te quality on the rare occasions when they are actualy working. Demanding higher pay and ever more bizarre conditions.

They destroyed themselves. MrsT merely swept them away.
Wow, the irony of Dangers post from someone blathering about Left Wing Propaganda and cabals of Leftie teachers raising generations of Maggie Thatcher Haters.... and then they produce this propaganda. Talk about generalisations and stereotypes...

"No, dogamtic, out of control unions made industry unviable in this country. Lazy workers turning out sh!te quality on the rare occasions when they are actualy working. Demanding higher pay and ever more bizarre conditions."
Yeah righto, if you say so.
Course they did Danger

That's why we still have such a huge motor manufacturing industry in the UK run by foreign companies!

British workers Landrover producing vehicles around the clock to meet demand - all for the benefit of Tata in India

Hugely sucessful Mini made by British workers in Oxford for BMW

I think it's pretty clear at least in the motor industry that British workers are capable of working well with competant management

Such a shame that seems in such short supply in the UK
Unions did their best to destroy that too jake, in the early days before Mrs T nuetered their powers, remember Dundee? Those car plants we now have all insisted on a single union agreement. The earlier ones failed because the unions where, as usual , totally unreasonable.

Yeah, because we all know that management are never greedy or grasping, or incompetent or unreasonable, don't we?
"When Maggie got into No 10 in 1979, we, the people owned our utilities, railways, coal, steel etc. Agree?"

Disagree.

While it's intended to be so in principle, ownership by the government is not ownership by 'we the people'.
Whatever else she was, she was a patriot who fought for this country.

She stood up to the EU, got the annual refund which Tony gave away in part for no benefit.

She stood up to the Unions, whose crippling grip on the country was pushing up inflation to unbelievable levels, with pay rises 2 or 3 times a year. In this, she did what previous PMs of both parties had attempted and failed.

She stood up to the Argies in a justifiable war, unlike Tony Bliar, who spinelessly took his orders from the US.

Like today (as usual) the Labour government had left a massive deficit, and a country on its knees.

so much of the Left wing whingeing is based on false myths. Where are all the trade union people who said that Communist Russia was a shining example? Rather quiet?
