my son has for the second time offset my toolbar icons vertically to the right of the page- i want them back running horizontally at the top - ive tried everything in "view" and customize toolbar -but nothing and i just cant figure it out to return to original position, the last time i managed it was by trial and error -this is ridiculous

right click on the toolbar and make sure "lock the toolbar" is unticked, then simply drag the toolbar to the desired position
...and when in the correct position remember to tick "Lock the Taskbar" to ensure it does not get moved again.
Well, unfortunately it doesn't always work that way. If you can't simply drag and drop it (and I suppose you've already tried it), try to get hold of taskbar quite close to Start and then drag it to where you want it to be. Why just this particular point works is beyond me, but MS works in mysterious ways.
