After being bugled twice ,I fully support the use of bait cars, and recently, bait houses. What I do object to is the lenient sentences when the are caught.

I agree with ummmm, FredPuli43 & others. I did not read Jake's link on the UK law, but USA law defines "entrapment" as 'police inducing the defendant to perform an illegal/ criminal act WHEN SAID DEFENDANT HAD EVERY INTENTION OF OBEYING THE LAW.'
Because I am not a thief, if I were to walk by a car, even if unlocked, with a laptop, a diamond ring, &or 1000 pounds/dollars in cash, I would not reach in & steal it. Indeed, I would want to lock the car doors but would not, lest I be accused of attempted theft by the owner or police walking by!
True entrapment would be if an undercover bobby were to hand a laptop to a waiter/barman saying, 'Hey mate, please watch this for me while I go to the loo!' & then the uniformed police walk in & announce that the laptop is stolen & try to charge the barman with receiving stolen property!

Well now, what about all policemen who have "temptation put in their way" every day of their lives? How many totally honest cops are there? Maybe they start out with the intention of upholding the law and putting perps behind bars, but it is clear that no cops can resist easy pickings.
Ask yourself this: Do I believe all policemen are honest?

Anything found, money or otherwise, should be handed in...so that the rightful owner MAY be contacted...by the police or authorities...
If not, the finder should benefit...
It should NOT go to general revenue...
