My last one and I just can't get it.
10 A. Grub up - German dish (4) rou?
All I can see is 'roux', which is a sauce, I think, but it just doesn't seem right.
The preamble says 'wordplay in the majority of clues yields an extra letter' - I don't know if this clue is involved.

rout or root would be to "grub up"??
Question Author
Thanks, 'rout' seemed to fit the 'grub up' bit, though I was still puzzled by the 'German dish'. I've just looked up 'grout' (G/erman+rout) and discovered that it can mean 'to root or grub with the snout'. Even though I haven't worked out where 'dish' comes in, I'm happy. Thanks again.
Look up CROUT in the BRB
I can see two 'those who repeated it', one going up and the other down.
Is this just coincidence?
Question Author
Boreas - until you said that, I hadn't noticed! I'd already highlighted the 'one going down', so I think I'm stuck with that.
Question Author
Thanks,puzzled272 - that makes perfect sense (and I might have realised if I'd tracked down all the extra letters!)
Hi Never,

I think the 'one going down' must be the right one because of its proximity to the other word - and wonder if the shape they make together means 'right'?
Question Author
Boreas, I definitely prefer the 'going down' answer as it's next to the source. I'm afraid I don't really see the shape thing.
Sorry, got a bit carried away. The shape is actually a mirror image of what I thought it was. So should be ticked off.
