well it is to me.... my only grandson is getting married to a lovely girl in Aug, I absolutely adore him even though I dont seem him very often. Our side of the family is going to church but not the reception, because the divorce[ over 25 years ago] was bitter and my son thinks after few drinks grandson's mother's side of the family will be picking for a fight and he doesnt want his son's big day to be spoiled by a punch up. Apparently I dont have a say in the matter but it has upset me no end,& its not negiotiable, plus we have to think of the girl's family too who know nothing of the bitterness that has gone on in the past.We just want the boy to be happy.

I agree with your son. After all you don't want your grandson's wedding to be ruined, or embarrassment for your family.
That's so sad...and it's a shame that something that happened 25 years ago shouls affect things now.

Not sure I agree-as it just perpetuates the anger...maybe many have forgotten.
That is sad Dee, but if you are going to the Church, at least you will see him get married. Sounds like the grandson's mother's family at the ones that shouldn't be going if they will cause trouble.
Sadly, that's family for you....they're like blummin' elephants - never forget. :o(
This is sad but for the sake of keeping the peace, go along with the plan and maybe have a small family gathering a week or two later for your side of the family.

It will be something to look forward to.

thats a nice idea mamy thank you.
So often we become 'Piggies in the middle' when divorce happens with our children , all we can do is accept the compromises.
well go and enjoy yourself and make your grandson's big day

and remember - no scrapping with the family !

My family I am surprised we arent put in different cages
have a separate celebration. mamy suggestion is a brilliant one. go for it. i missed my eldes daughter's wedding because of something similar. have never forgiven my ex for that or lots of other things. don't feel hatred just don't want anything to do with the slimeball.
That is sad. In that situation I think I would rather go to the ceremony than the reception if I had to choose anyway. Hope you can get together later as suggested. Im very lucky to have a great family. Weve got 3 divorces in our family but all exs are still included in family get togethers and weddings etc and seem to get on better now than when they were married
