Are Pyrex glass casserole dishes safe to use on an electric hob, just to brown meat and onions?

In my experience NO!!! i took out a casserole and put it on the hob and it exploded because the Pyrex couldn't handle direct heat on the glass!! x

ok, i will have to brown it all off in a seperate pan then! thanks!
No, no, no, it will explode!! I have just paid mega bucks for a Le Creuset casserole in order to brown the meat etc., so far I would say it is really worth the money. It will take over from the Pyrex which will possibly end up in the charity shop.

i will be purchasing Le Creuset when we move house, to go in my new kitchen!!
I find the best method of browning small pieces of meat, poultry, vegetables etc. is in a wok. You can easily toss the food items without throwing them all over the floor and easy to tip into a colander before putting in the pyrex casserole dish. Voila!!
