is it on, above or below the line?
Question Author
Above the line. thanks
Also are the lines dark or light and are the dots in the middle of the strokes or at the bottom or top ends?
sorry, maybe not, that's the right arm of the V.
Question Author
The left side of v seems dark, and the dots are light and in the middle of the left side of the v
Without actually seeing it, this is quite difficult but I reckon it is a phrase rather than a word so the first bit is possibly through. Not possible to say whether the second bit of the 'question mark' is long or short so could indicate another short word like the or something longer. The last bit - the v shape could be a b and an r with some vowels (the dots) but hard to say what they could be. Is that going to be of any help, or maybe someone can make a more accurate assessment.
Are there other words which you have managed to solve, or is this the only one?

Thanks for trying starone, just had a look on the site that boxtops said and its not there so it must be like you say a phrase or a name.
Question Author
just one
Is it possible for you to give more clues, like the context in which the shorthand is, or is this private to you?
Still pondering - the questionmark could be throughout, but the b and the r shape with the vowels would be something like berry or bury, but if this doesn't fit into what you are reading I cannot think of any other way to translate it.
or throat!

I think it is a pass word, the question mark that i said that is an extenion of the right top of the v sort of goes back a little like a swans neck, and the top of the question mark curls in like a cathrin wheel
sounds more and more like a short phrase. as previously said it is difficult to work out without seeing it. do you have a word before or after? this may help.
Question Author
Not that this will help you much l j the number one (ie) 1 comes after. i think you and starone are right it is a phrase, so you can both have a gold star for your help. if i do crack it i will post what it is, i can see myself walking into a posh office somtime soon and taking it with me and asking, they may think i'm crazy. :)
good luck will. if you think of any more clues please post them.
maybe: prepare it (hook on left) (l being 'at, it, tea' sound)

or apparition, apportion ? (hook on right)

Can you post a picture of the outline?
(hook on left but open to right) - player ?
c'mon WW, give up the image. I need to put this to bed
