There's a small outlet hole on the shelf covering the motor at the bottom of the fridge, it seems to block up and sometimes ice up - don't want to prod hole in case I break something - any ideas as to what could be causing it and a remedy?Fridge is about 10 years old, and the hole isn't big enough for a pea to have lodged itself inside.

If this is a larder fridge (ie no small freezer box at the top), then the rear inside wall is what does the cooling. It should ice up at times and then defrost itself, then ice up again. if it's blocked poke it right through and flush with an egg cupful of water its a drain hole for the condensation on the back of your fridge you'll not break anything
If this is a larder fridge (ie no small freezer box at the top), then the rear inside wall is what does the cooling. It should ice up at times and then defrost itself, then ice up again. When it defrosts, the water runs down the wall and should be able to run through this hole to a collection tray covering the motor / compressor. The hole should be kept clear - most fridges have a small plastic, loose-fitting "thing" in this hole which you can jiggle around to keep it clear.
Presumably it's icing up because the water can't escape - you need to carefully clear the hole. Some gentle prodding may be involved!

Thanks guys - will try both remedies
I was advised that the water freezes in the pipe and the only solution is and I have proved this. it to have an overnight de-frost. A nuisance, but after that I could pass a thin tube right through and pull iit out at the back
