2 d I have ASCLEPIAS, Plant on which monarch butterfly feeds.


12 a I have ALLOGAMY, Another name for cross fertilisation.


However the 5th and 2nd letters respectively do not fit!


Compilers error or alternative spelling which I cannot find?

Thanks but I've now divined it the alternative spelling seems to be ASCELPIAS and now all fits!
i think that your original spelling of ASCLEPIAS was correct and that 12 a is XENOGAMY

Many thanks mjd. How strange, my shorter Oxford gives both the defination 'cross fertilsation (Bot)'. Allogamy from the greek 'different marriage' and Xenogamy from the greek 'marriage'. This is somewhat out of my depth but if you'll forgive the pun its in the post and is now academic!
