New zealand probably, thats where they seem to film everything these days.
answerbankin is wrong, the story goes as this, Apperently Ridley Scott found out that the British Forestry Commision were getting rid of some "forest" and asked if they wanted his little film crew wanted to do it for them, hence the large destructive opening scene, of course this could be one of those great British Myths, but it sounds good though doesen't it. Love the penguin ad though.
The forest battle scenes in Gladiator were filmed at The Bourne, near Farnham in Surrey.
They recruited locally for extras and six of my friends were in it. One was slightly injured in a fight scene and was taken to Frimley Park Hospital where the driver had him jump the queue by telling staff he was a star. He and the Bourne Woods have fully recovered!
