Which programs should be in startup as basic to get computer to start up more quickly, I am on Win XP Home SP2.

IF you a re referring to the Startup folder under the "Programs" menu, then you don't need any.

Entries in this folder are placed there by programmes when they are installed (and often then can be deleted if yo know what you are doing).

All essential startup files are loaded by the system automatically.

In fact the less you have in there the better with regards to startup times

if you go into RUN and type msconfig,ity will show you all the things running at start up - you could make a list of these and check which ones you dont need to run - the ones that do generally appear in your system tray.It doesnt stop them working,just stops them running at start up.

None need running on startup on the windows start menu.

Msconfig using selective start up and limit what you run will improve the speed and some pc's have the ability to set the time taken to start up
