What jokes do Australians make about us? I've heard the one that we apparently don't shower/bath. Are there any other common ones and where on earth have they come from?

its not us english that dont shower/bath, its the french! trust me on this one, i live in france. not every french person smell, but a huge amount do! its horrible when you are standing in a queue or being near someone that stinks!!! its just disgusting!!

How times change. It doesn't seem long ago when nobody had a shower, and Friday was bath night. Working men didn't take their shirts off to wash, just turned the collar inwards so it didn't get wet. (For the record I take a shower or bath at least once a day).

Oh Maisy, it's a good job my ex husband isn't around. He's half French and would agree with the Aussies that English men, but not women were less than hygienic.
As for Australians, they also take the mickey out of 'whingeing Poms', which suggests the English are always complaining and are never satisfied.
Why? I think its former penal colony status has something to do with it and the nation has a love/hate relationship with the home country.
Personally, I adored the Aussies and would love to have lived there, but my skin and hair colouring stopped that. I would have burned to a cinder!

The thing about calling us Poms - i heard it stands for Prisoner of Mother England, and therefore they are actually the Poms. I've also heard they're all decended from the English who inhabited Australia (apart from the Aboriginies) so they are making jokes about themselves, hehe!

they say Brits keep the money under the soap, thus giving you two jokes - one about cleanness, one about meanness - for the price of one.
One I've heard is that 'you know the aeroplane has landed from England cos the whining noise goes on when the engines have stopped' - and that from an Aussie.
Haha i like that one!

Why do they think we whine all the time?
Having had the opportunity to travel quite extensively I've discovered the English do moan a great deal in comparison with the rest of the world and what's worse, English women are the most sullen and aggressive I have ever met... and that comes from an English woman who met girl gangs in LA (Violent, but wonderfully funny girls)
The main reason is that these jokes are interchangeable. By this I mean you can substitute : Aussies, Poms, Irish, Jews, Arabs, Blacks etc. with the same results. As it is definitely non-PC to make jokes about Blacks, Arabs, Irish, it stands to reason the only ones left to take mickey out of are the Aussies and the Poms.
