I suggest getting in touch with http://www.themcs.org/ they might be able to help, afterall, battle re-enactments are popular and chain mail has to be made somewhere.

I really do wish I could help. It has to be the question of the year
Hey, Mazie, it's only January! Plenty of time for more contenders yet. I did wonder if it was genuine though.

There must be plenty of mail order firms who will do it.
Google for live role playing groups then email a few and ask if they know anyone who can help you.
Instead of getting it shortened have you thought of spending some time on a rack? Then it would fit.
I agree with mazie, best post of the year..... could you not do it yourself, with tin snips?
Nice to know that you all come to ridicule people's hobbies here.
It may be a slightly unusual question to those of you who know nothing of live role playing (I do being engaged to a Larper-look up the term), but that is no excuse to take the pee is it?
nobody's ridiculing it, daffy (though NJ's joke was good). Lots of helpful posts and suggestions.
When did you undergo your sense-of-humour by-pass surgery, daffy?

I did not see any evidence of ridicule or pee-taking. Just a couple of attempts at light-hearted gentle humour. There's not always a "victim" whenever a joke is cracked. You know what they say: "If you can't take a joke you shouldn't have joined!"
Daffy, I'm not ridiculing it at all. I get involved in a lot of costume construction for local theatre - if it's metal rings, tin-snips could well be a solution.
I know you, alba and bookbinder were helpful boxtops.

If you can make contact with the mystical men in tights, or historical re-enactors, then your quest will be fulfilled. sadly their website 'a call to arms' is defunct.

Vonda. If you dont mind me asking. Why do you have this garment and why does it need shortening?
Look, a lot of people like to get their medieval shtick on. Problem?
A mail order tailor...one that does the knight shift? Knight? Shift....tunic........aaah forget it
boom-boom
Here in the U.S. chain mail has been outlawed by the United States Postal Service...
