Anybody any recommendations or warnings on what to avoid? The car would be just used in town.

Had a Toyota yaris a couple of times and was pleasantly surprised.
Can you hire small armoured cars?
Question Author
Sibton, yes you can. There's a chap in Ballymurphy bought a Saracen Armoured car and a Ferret Scout car and uses them for hire, stag nights, hen parties, and the like.
Though I don't know how many he can squeeze into the Ferret car.
I love my Smart Car Passion model, it can be used as a semi-automatic or fully automatic.
The draw back I see on the lease car, never your own, loss of space as we sometimes need, if it's 2 dr, hard work getting in & out for rear passengers. If it's a used one, make sure you CHECK THE CAR throughout before you even sign the papers, that includes the tyres, otherwise you will end up with bills to repair / replace damaged panels etc.
Sandy....go into several dealerships and ask about offers.BMW do deals on a regular basis on selected cars and the lease costs over say 2 years dont even cover the depreciation. However the best deals are for VAT registered companies as the costs are tax deductible. It can be a good choice if you want a new car and dont want to own a depreciating asset. Good luck.
i still miss my smart car 2 years after i got rid of it
