Craniomandibular osteopathy is a recessive hereditary condition found in Westies. Both parents have to carry the gene, but are not necessarily affected by it themselves, so it is possible the breeder has not been aware of it before. However they should not breed from the parents again, so they should be notified of your pup's condtion.

Some grow out of it by about 18 months and live a normal life. Your vet will be able to prescribe treatment, and I would take his advice rather than go down the homeopathic or herbal route at this stage, although it is possible you could change onto this in the future.

Did you have free insurance when you bought the puppy, as this can be a long term expensive condition.

Hi,
i am going to write to the breeder with information about the disease so she will be aware that she should not breed from the 2 dogs which carry the disease,

Lilly is having anti inflamitry injections and as from tomorrow she will go over to tablets so we can try to get the pain under control, Hopefully within weeks she should be pain free as it is a 14 day growth cycle,

I unfortunately did not have pet insurance on her, but she means the world to us all ready so what ever the cost is we will pay,

i would hust like to hear from anyone who has a westie/cairn/scottie with this condition so i could help lilly abit more.

i would like to use herbal alongside anti inflamatry drugs depending on safety/health
All homeopathic/herbal remedies are safe to use with conventional medicines.

Try Dorwest Herbs, www.dorwest.com they are very helpful
and will recommend a treatment/dosage. The vet will probably prescribe steroids, which you can gradually reduce in line with using the alternative treatment.

Try http://www.dogclub.co.uk/forum/ for good help on the homeopathy front :-)
