Received a text to say our ferry has been cancelled, next available is 2nd January.
Absolutely unbelievable. Luckily holiday company are covering hotel bills. Must be costing them a fortune. When we had first delay they offered us a reduced rate of £115 for the two of us per day for room and food, now this is a 4 star hotel where the food is absolutely stupendous. The hotel is suffering as new customers cannot get here. There was a big wedding being held here with hundreds of guests but it's not going to happen.
I am going stir crazy, dare not think beyond i day at a time.
Drove round the island again today, discovered (with great excitement) The German Occupation Museum is open daily from 10-1.00 so we have somewhere to go tomorrow. There is a cinema on the island so we will investigate that too.

Thanks for update Caran - did you see my post a couple of hours ago on your other thread asking how you were faring?
Sorry to hear of your next delay, as you say, unbelievable, but better to stay put until it's safe, and who would weant to be seasick?? The German Occupation hospital is very interesting, I have a feeling it was very cold and damp down there (underground) so wrap up warm! We loved the little chapel on the island made of shells and pieces of pottery.
And you're marooned in......?
I have just checked on the travel news on TV information (used to be Ceefax), and it says the only disruption to ferries are the ones from Guernsey to Weymouth due to structural alterations to the dock area at Weymouth. These ferries are being diverted to Poole instead. I think it said Condor ferries - also said all other ferry companies operating as normal, but of course this could be old information. Do you think your holiday company are wrongly informed? Have you tried ringing the actual ferry company or are you doing it through the holiday company? Have a safe journey whatever happens ... x

Ann our original ferry was 27/12 to Poole, that was cancelled due to weather, next was 29/12, that has been cancelled because of expected high winds. There was one today but that was filled up with earlier cancellations. There are no more ferries at all until 2/1. Hotel have liaised with Condor and holiday company. We have even tried to get a flight back and have car shipped to Poole later on but all flights booked. Even looked at a ferry to France so we could drive to Calais and use the tunnel but no ferries to France,

Thank you Ann that was lovely of you, that is a great help.
poor you, carandrog! there is nothing worse than being stuck somewhere....and waiting for your own bed. i hope you live in the higher parts of old glevum as the usual parts are under water. fortunately, my parents in 'la strode' are on top of a big hill (and mum always says if they flood, then everyone's in trouble!)....but they are driving down to us on the south coast tomorrow for my dad's birthday. he thinks his pressie is still in the post (but it came today and it's a posh watch - and he will still tell me off for it!). i hope you get things sorted as soon as possible x

Question Author
Icg26, we live in Forest of Dean on top of a hill so hopefully no floods, or it will have to be very, very deep to affect us.!
Anywhere near Fownhope?
Question Author
Never heard of that, but only been here 9 years, we live in Cinderford.
excellente, carandrog. i was beginning to imagine you making the last part of your (eventual) journey home in a dinghy. but beware them furresters.....some of 'em be funny! x
