i have never had a problem with santander, and quite frankly like them better than lloyds (where i have another account)
I never had a problem with Santander either- I had an online account for a few years and never had any problems.
I coulnd't move fast enough from Santander when they took over Bradford and Bingley, then Abbey.... they were rubbish, but that might be local branch experience.
Phleb,

I only consider current accounts that pay me to run them! I operate two to maximise my 'take' from the Banks annually. I have a 'Reward' account with HBOS (needs to be funded with a minimum of £1000 per month but that money can be taken out the day after it goes in!), which pays me £60 per year after tax (as a standard rate taxpayer). I also have a Santander 123 account which pays a series of Cashbacks for monthly direct debits on Council Tax, Communications bills (Telephone & Internet + Cable or satellite TV) and utilities (Gas & Electric). If you can afford to put anything up to £3000 in the account and leave it there it will pay 3% interest, which is pretty good these days. With both accounts I get back about £220 per year, which I consider is adequate recompense for the Banks having access to my money!!
Hope this helps your decision making.
Hi- you have to pay a monthly fee though for the 123 account, and I find similar cashback can be achieved from a some fee free credit cards
Dont understand phleb why you are paying a fee with the Halifax. I have current account with them. £5 a month from them is a gift each month. I think its called a reward account. All transactions free and £1000 overdraft facility. This is fee free up to £300 and above that £1 a day. They do have a current account which you pay a fee but I wouldnt go fo that one.
grasscarp, alice suggests that phleb's got a Reward account which she does have to pay for.
So Phleb is not transferring because Halifax is charging then.
Apparently she can change to another Halifax account which doesn't charge?
