Entia. In the clue.
Entia - in the clue - should it read 'more than one being'?
Question Author
I saw Entia in the clue but more than once could also mean extra??????????
Entia is the plural of ens. It's something to do with metaphysics. The second link gives both singular and plural meanings:

http://dictionary.reverso.net/english-definition/ens
I think "somewhat" indicates that it's in the word 'deferential'.
Question Author
I checked Entia in Chambers which didn't really help but I'll go with Penny2 I think the somewhat in deferential is about right. Many thanks to all.
