Tried to book a table for Christmas Day in 3 restaurants to be told they do not take people on their own that day.
I also went to a restaurant today and got shoved up in an odd corner and had to get up 3 times to ask for service.
I went to a theatre tonight and I noticed people moved to other seats in the interval away from me.
Also been told outright there is something wrong for somebody to be widowed in their 50's. My wife passed away with cancer.
Do people not realise people are sometimes on their own though no fault on their part.

desktop, I'm sorry you feel like that but it isn't true.

A lot of caring was shown on this very site a couple of nights ago when an ABer appeared to be distressed and ill.
I don't think most people are cruel- only a few are but maybe some are just a bit tactless.
Your thread reminds me of someone on here who moved to Birmingham from London and felt he was made to feel very unwelcome because he had a London accent and earned a decent pension. People are strange sometimes
Oh, yes! I remember that, factor.

Hi factor30

If you mean Stratford upon Avon I did go there about 2 months ago. Were you one of the other people in the pub having lunch and we started talking.
Were you one of this group?.
My car was being serviced and I had a loan car.
One of the other people started talking about a nice flat for sale by the river.
I did say I was considering buying a flat or a bungalow at the time but there is no chance of moving to Stratford. I may have given the impression I lived in Stratford.
Really it was a case of wanting to be near my family rather than the price being a problem.

There are 3 ex Londoners in my road ( which I know of ) and I am not aware they have had any problems.
I have lived in this house as a child and moved back in when my parents passed away.
No, sorry I don't recall meeting you in a pub. Clearly I'm confusing you with another poster who it seems is no longer with us on AB. Enjoy your Twixmas break
For hc4361 - was this the one you were also thinking of?
http://www.theanswerb.../Question1152862.html
some people got to the bar at intervals and just sit back in any seat thats free - you have no idea if it was anything to do with you at all - maybe they just noticed there were better seats elsewhere or someones head was blocking their view.
so dont take that personally.

and there is something wrong for someone to be widowed in their 50s - someone died... you cant get much more wrong than that.
do you think they were trying to say you are somehow weird and must have done something to deserve being widowed young?
because that makes no sense since its out of your control...

restaurants seat individuals on the smaller tables ... regardless of where they are positioned - they save the larger tables for people who need it - it doesnt mean they were just shoving you out the way
there are millions of people who go to places alone every day -it happens all the time, its acceptable, they expect it and are used to it - and they couldnt care less about your personal situation either.

sorry i think maybe you are reading into things a bit much
That's the one, factor30 :D Oh! That user is suspended.
^^^Oh. And so is MANFROMPLUTO.
Can't say I'm shocked.
perhaps you smell, which is why people moved away from you in the theatre and put you in the corner, lest you put other diners off of their dinner?
Pathetic, pointless posturing. All a single man has to do is to order two dinners and request that the second be wrapped in a doggy bag for later consumption. Simples. Restaurant happy, customer happy, where's the problem?
It costs twice as much, and shouldn't be necessary, that's what, plautus
Wonder why he has been suspended? Did I miss a bad comment?
I didn't see anything, Ann, I wonder too. Unless it was something on another thread
Or on another site?
Or their IP has been checked.
Suspended posters who return under different names are regularly spotted. Quite a few have gone in the last 48 hours.
Someone had the same sad experience in this thread
