My laptop has gone to heaven.

I am thinking of buying a new one soon. I see that Windows 8 is out soon and am debating whether to wait or buy one now (possibly at a good price).

Any thoughts on what is my best option. Also any links to sites which would help me make up my mind?

I have a windows 7 computer and it is working well so I will not load windows 8 on to it.
Windows 7 computers may be being sold cheaper so may be a good buy if they do everything you want.
I stayed with xp and missed vista and purchased a Windows 7 computer when my XP computer was nearing the end of its life.

Thank you Michaelhj that is helpful.

I have hardly used Windows 7 as this one and the laptop were both Vista which I am not particularly fond of.
Anyone buying a Windows 7 machine now will be entitled to a free upgrade to W8 after its release later this month.
The upgrade will be via download and preserves your personal files etc.

Most upgrades I see seem to be priced £14.99.

Would it not be easier to wait for it to be pre-installed?
I'm no techie, but gather that Windows 8 will be a completely new type of OS, compared with previous versions. The link below (and the ones contained within it) give some idea of what to expect. I suspect I'll be sticking with Windows 7.

The latest Computeractive magazine has a review of Windows 8, and the conclusion is -- "Some interesting new features but the new touch-focussed Metro interface is woefully ill-suited for a laptop or desktop PC.
For traditional computers, stick with Windows 7."
I won't be "upgrading"!

Thank you all.

A lot of food for thought here. I think I am going to look for something on Windows 7 Any suggestions as to where to look for (good) deals around £500-550 ?
