I have bought some rather lovely looking scallops this morning from Waitrose. I have looked on various websites with regards to how long they need to cook.

One website says get the pan absolutely hot hot hot and only cook them for approx 30 secon each side otherwise they will go rubbery and the other website says 1-3 minutes each side, which are two vast differences in the timings.

Any suggestions?

We had scallops yesterday. They were mahoosive. I cook them pretty much the same way every time....hot pan, butter and olive oil and place them in the pan in a clock face. By the time you place the last scallop in, the first one you put in will be ready to turn. y the time you turn the last one they are ready to come out one by one in the order you put them in. Works every time. We served ours with black pudding, apple puree and crispy proscuitto....they were delish. Hope you enjoyed yours kat xx

I didn't get my scallops, my poor OHis still at it with the harvesting and isn't going to be back for at least another hour or so....so goodnight folks, I'll let you know how the scallops are/were tomorrow x.
This might sound a stupid question, but how do you get them out of the shell?
Question Author
Hi Sandy, they came already out of the shell, as I wouldn't have a clue otherwise x.
