There is no such service as business post, the closest by name is "Business Mail Secure" which is a secure but non-tracked service.

thanx for that but i dont think i fully got the gist of it myself but the way i thought it meant was obviously a firm/business used royal mail to deliver the parcel so whether or not they have say an account with the royal mail i dont know but i am sure they did say it was sent via royal mail business but maybe they actually mean parcelforce, but still grateful for your reply anyway
If it was sent Parcelforce or Special Delivery then it would be tracked. This is the same whether a business or an individual person sends the item. If it is sent by first class post, second class post, first class recorded, second class recorded or by standard parcel then there will not be a tracking number.
Spudqueen, sending items first or second class recorded shows a tracking number on your receipt enabling you to follow progress via the Royal Mail website and see a copy of the signature of the recipient.
Sorry Douglas, that's incorrect.

Recorded Delivery doesn't provide a tracking facility. (There are prominent notices to that effect in my local post office). Items are carried in the normal mail; it's only upon delivery that they're treated any differently, with a signature being required from the recipient. The number on the 'proof of posting' can be used to view that signature after delivery but it can't be used to track the progress of the item prior to delivery.

It's only the far more expensive Special Delivery service which sees items being handled separately, and tracked throughout their journey.

Jesmond:
The sender of an item ordered remotely (i.e. by post, phone or online) is responsible for getting it to you. If it doesn't arrive it's up to them to pursue the matter with their chosen carrier and, if then necessary, to provide you with a refund or replacement item. Hassle the company to comply with their legal obligation. (If they choose to use a service which doesn't require a signature, that's their fault - not yours!).
