/// Dylan, 71, said: ‘If slavery had been given up in a more peaceful way, America would be far ahead today.’ ///

And how far ahead would they have been?

After all haven't they been to the moon, and haven't they got a black President, so he hasn't done so bad has he, all thanks to Grand-Papa Punch, or could he have done much better for himself if it hadn't been for slavery?

/// President Obama - the most powerful man in America - is himself believed to be descended from slaves. ///

/// Genealogists even claim that DNA analysis and marriage and property records suggest that Obama is the 11th great-grandchild of John Punch, the first black slave living in colonial Virginia nearly four centuries ago.///

/// Slavery is, was a blight, a stain on our entwined histories, ///

Britain and America are not the only countries that are stained, parts of Africa itself are equally if not more stained.

The map below is interesting, why does the marker towards Britain stop in the Bay of Biscay?

There seems to be more sent to the Middle East than Britain.

Migration: A map shows the primary trans-Atlantic routes out of Africa during the slave trade between 1500-1900
some Arabs were slave traders, black people were taken from African countries and shipped all over the place. But we like America have to hold our grubby hands at this despicable trade. Please don't take it that though others including members of their own tribes weren't complicit too, that we shouldn't acknowledge our part in this trade. America won't ever truly move forward unless it reconciles it's past. And that includes the wrongs done to the Native Americans.

Old Git
because very few african slaves came into uk/western europe.

the UK/european slave trade was a triangle:

manufactured goods to africa
slaves from africa to colonies in the new world
raw materials to uk/western europe
