Why did Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge seem to hesitate before kicking the penalty that knocked Great Britain out in the quarter-finals of the Olympic football tournament?

no idea, but i can't watch them without thinking what a waste. Penalty shoot outs seem to be our downfall time and time again.
Er, because he was nervous.

Also, just like they did with Shaun Wright Phillips, Chelsea have the ability to take a promise young player and make him into a bad one.

I do not blame Sturridge or Ramsey for missing their penalties, I blame Stuart Pearce who has been as terrible manager here as he was for Manchester City. From the omission of Beckham to bringing on Giggs at 85 minutes of a must win game, he has a clue. I guess that makes him favourite for the next England Manager
Fancy the job, Gromit?
* he hasn't a clue *

* promising young player *

sorry for typos.
Well, if Pearce is anything to go by, the only qualification you need to have is that you must have 'passion'.

You do not need ability or previous success or to have any idea who yoyr best pkayers are.
"From the omission of Beckham"

you mean the over the hill virtually a one trick pony, been playing third rate if that football for the past few years , that beckham
Several good penalty takers hesitate in their run up. But the good ones don't advertise which way they are going to direct the ball !
Exactly right Fred.
The "stuttering" run up gives the kicker an idea as to which way the goalie is going to go...............didn't work last night though..;-)
No it didn't sqad, it worked exactly the opersite way.
Are you saying he threw the game anotheolgit? Is that what you're saying?

That's a pretty bit statement if you are.
