I think this is a regional thing , in Liverpool they say book in London it's buk . but in Liverpool you take a bath in London it's a barth .neither one is right or wrong just dialect and accent
Where are you traci?....for me it's luk and buk. (Derbyshire).

I was born and grew up in Liverpool, now live in York.
My dad used to say luke and buke!
Why do londoners say fred ( thread) wiv (with) etc. Surely they are taught english in schools to be correct in their speech ( like as how I was innit )
I am luk and buk, which is odd, because in Stoke where I have grown up and live, it's book and look.

For reasons I am unaware of, I have not got the local accent at all, perhaps odd words here or there, but by and large, I am pronounced English.

My mum and dad (deceased) are local born and bred, and again do not have much of the acccent, hardly any at all, likewise my sisters.

The present Mrs Hughes is also local, and has some of the accent, which disappears entirely when she is in a work situation.

Her dad is very Pottery - her mum is irish, and her accent is undented by nearly sixty years of living here, she stilll has her lovely soft Wicklow voice.
My chldren have varying degrees of the accent, the youngest is as Pottery as they come!

Odd isn't it?
I say luk and buk..born in the south, raised in the north..but mum being a southerner I say it as she did....even though dad was a northener, and said
book and look!!
Lancs here, we say buk and luk here too.
I'm York born and bred and say 'buk' and 'luk'..................however parts of South Yorkshire say 'book' and 'look'.

Two of my grandchildren (Selby) say oooo and the other, (Newcastle) says u.
Originally from Bolton,Lancashire and I say book and look.
The one's that annoy me most I don't think are regional, when did boots become 'bewts' and food become 'fewd' when did turmeric become 'twomeric' and i've heard young women say 'drass' instead of dress, and when did we start to call railway stations 'train stations' you could go on and on, but we won't stop it, the 'Queens English' is sadly in decline.
I'm surprised at that Traci as my 3 nephews are all Selby born and say buk........perhaps they copy their parents.
buke/luke/cuke/tuke

They do speak rather posh craft, think they copy their mum, som in laws kids from previous relationship, but still treat them like my grand kids, they are here most weekends.
