Peeling nails problem ...

I have always had medium length nails and have looked after them carefully over the years. However recently they have all started to peel in layers from the top edge which is really annoying as they "catch" in everything and I have to cut them down quite short, and even when they are so short that they are level with my finger, they still peel. Am I deficient in some Vitamin or nutrient do you think? and can anyone recommend some product to use to help this please.... Thanks.

Thank you Shaney x

Pasta, I buffed my nails religiously after being told it would help the peeling. I did it for about two weeks and they ended up in a dreadful state! I have an array of nail treatments and hardeners etc. They all made things worse!!!
I suspect the point of buffing-if not to smooth the nail-is also to stimulate circulation. Massaging the nails 2-3 times a day would do the same I guess.
I have managed to grow my nails in the last few years and a friend gave me a mini manicure set on my last birthday, and it had a tube of vitamin E cream in it, which I religously used every day, and my nails were really good - no flaking or peeling etc - I keep meaning to buy some more cream as my nails are starting to peel a bit without the attention they have been used to. I've also tried the Sally Hansen Hard As Nails, but it didn't seem to help much.
Ive been trying prostrong from qvc with good effect so far...i got it off ebay cheaper.......

And ive also got a new nail file as recommended on here, leighton denny crystal file...which i LOVE....dosent even feel like im filing xx
My nails are the same peeling and breaking low down before they clear my fingertips. I've never really had good nails I can go a few weeks with them almost all the same length then they start breaking off. I've tried all sorts. I thought the same as you Ann86 I must be deficient in some vitamin.
Hi again ladies..

The Sally Hansen ones I have used are Age Correct Growth Treatment....but
I don't think thats available anymore, not bad, I looked on her website too.

Advanced Cuticle Repair...for dry cracked nails and cuticles...I found that
on sale in Superdrug. It's purple in colour, but its an oil, paints on like
a varnish, massage in, when required. Thats not bad either, revitalizes with Retinol and Vitamins A & E.

nothing seems to stop the flaming cracking though, suppose I will have to
own up to it being and age thing!! lol

Will check out you're links now.
chi-chi...you can get the Age Correct on Ebay...
