I have never grown onions before, but this year, I planted 6 rows of shallots and they have done really well, each splitting into 4,5 & 6 onions. I knew enough to remove the seed pod when it grew, but where do I go from here, do they need lifting and drying before I start to think about pickling them, Thanks in advance, Clasher

From the RHS website:
"Shallots are ready to harvest when the foliage starts to turn yellow in July. Lift the bulb clusters with a hand fork, separate them and allow to dry. Shallots can be stored in trays or bags in a frost free place".
