I rarely moan about health issues but I have a patch of itchy dry skin on my left shin. I've been putting up with it for the six months or so that its been there, occasionally slapping on a bit of moisturising cream or aloe vera gel but it just won't shift. Any ideas what it might be/how I get rid of it ?

...and hit you over the head with the soggy end ?
try bio oil - but you are going to keep applying it. I get it on my shins too and only remember to do something about it when I have to shave my legs or it starts itching.

Never heard of it - is it some kind of skin repair substance ?
I wanna know what it is, I *never* get skin thingies ! Maybe its some sort of fungus - most of the time I ignore it, but when I'm out in me shorts it seems to bother other people more than it does me.
a cream called HYDROMOIL u can buy from pharmacy or the GP can prescribe, hubby is diabetic and a patch of dry skin went all "scaley" and this did the trick, its quite thick so best applied at night.
Ah - mine is just dry shiny skin. Yours could be fungus. Try searching in Google images until you get something similar and see what it is.

I have to go - the cats coughing with his asthma and needs his inhaler. :-)
I had a 'fungus' once and was prescribed some sulphur based emulsion. It was pretty good. See your GP, they will be able to diagnose or refer you as needed.
the dreaded "lurgies" then ?
Could be fungal, could be a patch of eczema...........either go to your GP OR assume that it is fungal and buy some Lamisil cream from the pharmacist.
Sorry for coming in to your question but I have a patch the size of a 2 pence piece on my lower leg about 3 or 4 inches up form my ankle. It is itchy, dry, scaly and raised. I asked the pharmacist and she said could be ringworm.? But have used fungal cream on it but it is no different. Sqad would Lamisil be better do you think.? Many thanks Brenda x
lilachen....no.....of you have tried antifungal creams. then Lamisil wouldn't help.

It may be a patch of eczema and if so Synalar or 1%hydrocortisone cream may well be better alternatives.
Many thanks sqad. Brenda x
