WW2 film

Many years ago I remmeber watching a film, I think I enjoyed it but years can cloud the memory! It was a flashback film, the main carachter was a lady sitting at a train station waiting. She goes into flashback mode and she is a young girl who gets swept off her feet by a soldier, I can't recall if he is USA or UK. They became lovers and she became an unmarried mum. The person she was waiting for was her son, the first meeting and he was now a grown man. I think it may have been a 1940s or 1950s film, it was in black and white. Anyone any ideas?
