one doesn't expect the ceremony to be anywhere near to the Chinese in Beijing, the cost would likely bankrupt us.
But a farm yard, countryside scene seems rather a strange concept.
What do you reckon

Just been watching this on the news, does seem rather bizarre. My 13 year old asked if the fireworks will scare the animals, not sure we'll have any. I thought the opening ceremony was going to be a celebration of the NHS, a couple of friends went for auditions.

not a bad idea, and cockles, whelks, pie mash and liquor.
we had a labour government then em ;)
Come on, fair play, let's wait and see. THEN you can give it a good kicking if it's rubbish.

I am not giving it a good kicking, just an opinion that a farmyard scene wouldn't be representative of Britain as a whole. A cricket match will be taking place in the middle of all this as well. it is perhaps an idealised version of Britain, but i don't see much of swinging London, or indeed
what most would expect from such a mixed nation of peoples. Like the Queens Diamond Jubilee, which was excellent.
in fairness it was just a sneak peek so until we see it its difficult to just label it as a farmyard scene, we have no idea what the finished ceremony will be like.

trigger, not to mention the ladies having a natter over the garden fence, fag in mouth, curlers in hair, all the while the kiddies racing around the place, sounds just like the old days.
Sorry, but as I can't be bothered by all this olympic hype - apart from me.. Who cares - "waste of money, waste of creativity, waste of my time" - no Thanks.

Sorry if I offend, but let the London Metro-Media-Centric fools enjoy!!

nibble, well we don't have a choice really living here, and though i was all for the games coming here, realised that it's a massive intake of people, when we are already swamped with tourists all year round. Without the 7 million, give or take a few, who already live here.
Rumour has it that the whole show is magnificent with stirring Brit music, music such as Elgar's Nimrod and other classics that represent us - and remember there are four acts in just over an hour's show before the athletes parade and all the Olympic sign-on palaver......I think it is unfair to start criticising until it is over but then I would say it is wrong to start giving away the game now.

It annoys me immensely, esp the BBC, when they start showing major clips of shows or documentaries to entice the viewer - as often these are the best bits that are used. Quite frankly, they ruin the show. Do we really have to pander to the sound-bit-Sandra or Stevie all the time?

Oh and there are a bucket load of fireworks planned - I suspect that metal Kapoor "sculpture" next door may well be "blown up" - My fav Olympic cartoon so far: http://www.lookyou.co.uk/Matt.12.7.gif
