I was powerhosing yesterday and the machine stopped suddenly. I assumed that I had blown a fuse but when I checked everything was okay. I let the machine lie for half an hour and it worked again. So I was wondering is there a proper way to use a powerhose. Should it be used in short bursts or should it be left for 15 minutes every now and again? What is the best way to use it?

it might have been an airlock, the motor will only run when there is water to pump.
Question Author
I assumed it overheated or something.
might be that too, that will depend on the size of the motor...not possible to say always do this or that.
thermal cutout has tripped, something has caused it to overheat, possibly poor water flow or as said an airlock...
You shouldnt have a problem with normal domestic use,ie not 8 hours a day 5 days a week...
No hosepipe ban?.....Lucky you.

From what I gather the hosepipe ban is a joke. How can you have a hosepipe ban in conjunction with rivers bursting their banks? Someone is getting paid a lot of money to not do their job it sounds like.
we have a hosepipe ban, but lets be honest the amount of rain we have had why would i want to water my garden anyway ?
The plug coming out of the Feeed? did the plug come loose from the connection?
Keep up flobadob. By and large the water in your tap in the south and east of England doesn't come from the rivers - it comes from deeper ground water sources via extraction pumping. So bulging rivers has no impact on the ability of the utility companies to supply you with water.

Yeah but is the main problem not burst pipes leaking water rather than a lack of water available?
Most probably a thermal cutout. Having a 5 minute break every 20 minutes or so should get over the problem. If that doesn't work I'm afraid that your machine is probably not up to the job.
