Now the fuss has died down, I wonder if the Ed could arrange a 'Heading' both within the 'Sport' Topic & its subsidiary Topics, especially 'Football'.

It might say something along the lines of -

Welcome to the AnswerBank Football Section - when starting a thread, please refrain from using titles that will show in Latest Posts as 'spoilers'.

A recent example was (with apologies to mickrog!) -

http://www.theanswerb.../Question1133682.html

I'm sure that I wasn't alone in looking forward to the highlights on MotD & was a bit miffed to see this thread pop up & pretty much give the result away.

A non-specific title - eg, "Premier League Result", "Champions League Final" - would enable the user to fill the question box with the meat of the thread & warn others not to open it & spoil their enjoyment later on.

This is of course an excellent idea, but dissenting opinions are welcome...

As always, thank you for your time & attention :-))

I think that you can ask, however there will always be (a vast majority) of people who don't read the introduction at the top of topics (although on that note ed there are spelling/grammar mistakes on the topic headers that annoy me every time I read them - how can your job title be "editor" and let these slip through?) and post anyway, so I would say the onus is on you not to read them or even come here as you might see them. Having been on the end of someone's vitriol after posting about something that happened in a program after it had aired I feel somewhat ambivalent towards spoilers!
"though on that note ed there are spelling/grammar mistakes on the topic headers that annoy me every time I read them - how can your job title be "editor" and let these slip through?"

If you'd like to point me at these issues I'd be happy to make corrections. I'm afraid sometimes there's only me writing and checking this stuff, and self-editing is difficult - especially when you're trying to get the html right. No excuses, just making you aware of the situation.
hi ed, i actually cant find them now - how embarrassing! just goes to prove my point - no-one reads the headings :)
When you say headings, you do mean the category intro stuff - like here: http://www.theanswerbank.co.uk/News/

Rather than when someone mistypes something as a question title?
yes, i mean your bits :) ooer mister
bednobs you must have read them if you found some that annoyed you - even if you cannot find them now.

On the wider issue I still see it as a friendly and considerate gesture and in no way akin to a 'comedy sketch' ala The Likely Lads.

Please accept my apologies for getting back here, I've got a nasty bug & feel like something the lion threw up...

jno - I reiterate that at no point have I 'demanded' that thread titles MUST be worded in a certain way. This thread is in 'Suggestions'...

That said, I thank you all for the comments & interest you've shown & am now heading back to my pit...
lair not pit- that's what lions sleep in innit?
no wait- it's den.

(I think)
Oh dear Matron will be there with my trolley very soon, purrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

B00 - the state of the den means it's more like a pit...

Thank you, Matron - a few bottles of that red medicine from the cellar might do the trick...
this thread's in Suggestions but I think if fulfilled it'd be more than a suggestion, more like a request. And as bednobs says, a request that people can already get quite grumpy about if it's not met.

But I honestly can't see why Mickrog should even be "invited" to write a more obscure headline. I really think it's up to people to put themselves in purdah if they don't want to know about something that's happened; it's not up to others to tiptoe around.

I say this as someone who seldom goes near Soaps or Sports so I'm not much affected either way, I admit.
