/// A British homeless man said it had become too dangerous to sleep out in central London because of Romanian gangs roaming around at night thieving at knifepoint. ///

What should be done about the influx of coachloads of Romanian pickpockets and prostitutes which are arriving in the capital every day?

For those who say life in our capital is no different now to what it was in the 50s, must be under a false impression, because we are moving very quickly towards being a third world country.

so what you class as a suitable "wake up call"? Being robbed? Duffed up a bit? Knifed? Threatened at gun point? Where do you draw the line?
Em10 I've been homeless and stayed at some of the worst hostels you can imagine, I'm one of those that fell through the cracks but it was mainly because of my lifechoices.
I stayed on the streets for 5 years not because I couldn't get out but because it was easy, no responsibilities, easy money, some days I could make £500, but eventually I slipped down a long slide of alcohol and drugs and was eventually rescued by st mungo's, had someone been tougher with me or had the streets been so dangerous then I doubt I would've stayed, this is what I mean.
fair enough, i was thinking of St Mungo's and any number of other places i know here. I never forget that it can be anyone of us, it only takes a moment for the whole pack of cards to come tumbling down, marriage break up, loss of job, debt, and there you are, possibly out on the street.
If these Romanian people are doing this, then should by all right be deported.
You don't need an address to sign on. In the days when benefits were paid by Giro you'd go in to the office to collect it
As sandy said you don't need an address as you go nfa which means No Fixed Abode"
ok
I wish I knew one of these polish workmen who come over here and undercut english workman
I cannot find a garderner for love nor money
Not for love can you find a gardener? Isn't that the gamekeeper's job?

That's great you are prepared to condemn the rest of the national workforce because certain careless employees of a British company happened to smash some of your mirrored wardrobe doors.

Surely that was not a national disaster, and I trust they were replaced without any cost whatsoever to yourself?

/// lol AOG, I also noticed that you're selective in which bits of peoples posts you replied to. ///

Of course, do you yourself answer each and every point, each of your fellow debaters care to put?

But in this instance I will answer you.

/// Are you (and in turn The DM) stating that London was a safe place to sleep rough in before these Romanians arrived? ///

That is incorrect, since it was first the Daily Mail who reported this, so you should have said "Are the DM (and you in turn) stating......"

I will continue;

Not having slept rough on London's streets or any other place for that matter, I was only quoting on what the Daily Mail reported that particular homeless man had said.

The secret is in the way you read my headline 'London is now too dangerous even for the British homeless it seems'

"IT SEEMS" are the two words that gives it away.

Not a direct statement from me only 'it seems'.

/// Now come to think of it - who remembers the (horrible) story of the homeless bloke who was set alight whilst he slept in London a few years back? ///

Just because some savage horribly mutilated some women on the streets of London way back in 1888, doesn't mean to say that if a similar crime happened today, it should not be reported upon.

/// and their being robbed for their begging money, drugs and alcohol hence him being in the jobcentre, surely anything that stops the homeless getting drunk, getting drugged up and scared into the jobcenters to try and change their lives around is a good thing? ///

Why yes, what a good idea, why don't the authorities employ heavies to beat up these British homeless individuals and rob them of their money, drugs and alcohol?

That would certainly solve a few problems and at the same time one could donate the said confiscated items to the Romanian homeless.
