Anybody been on the speed awareness course offered instead of taking three points on your licence? What it's like?
No idea what the criteria for being offered it is.Isn't it meant for persistent speeders? I'm offered one for 36 mph in a 30 zone. My previous speeding 5 years ago was 26 mph over Tower Bridge, which a 20mph zone on the bridge itself. Hardly boy-racer stuff !.

it's can be a bit schooly, preachy and earnest, but many colleagues - no worse culprits than you - have been glad to have that penalty instead of the points!
It is not well over hundred unless it it has changed in the last week or so! It was for doing 37 in a 30. It was 90 quid and no points. No need to tell insurance company as it is the soft option. In my opinion well presented and relevant course.
Perhaps my colleague was on about something else then, even still 90 quid is a lot of money. I wouldn't say I particularly enjoyed the course but it wasn't a shambles, very professional yet friendly. The oldest guy there was around 70 and during the "spot the hazard" bit... when it was his turn to answer he said "sorry what were we supposed to be doing?" :/ eeeeek

Cheshire quoted £75.
Speed causes accidents? Is that the reason for the course? That's what puzzles me about it; it's not the driver of many years experience, caught once in 5 years or more for 36 in a 30 zone by a speed camera, who needs re-educating about speed, but I'm pleased to keep a clean licence, for all that !
Fred, to drive at 36mph in a 30 mile zone is a heinous crime and you should be pleased capital punishment was abolished in the late sixties and this was after driving at 26 mph in a 20mph zone , you are clearly a hardened criminal.
I was caught doing 39 in a 30 area at 0917 on a Sunday morning in what is a largely trading estate area (lots of children and grannies wandering around of course). I opted for the driver awareness course (£105 but no points or conviction). I expected to be lectured and admonished by the people doing the course but was pleased to find that I was treated as an adult with no patronising and no questions from the staff as to my offence. There were in fact others there for using mobile phones whilst driving, jumping red lights etc etc. All in all three hours of driver education which was quite useful.
39 in a 30 with kids about?? Expect to be roundly flogged by the motoring evangelists Gladian!
