he wrote slay ride could it have 8 letters as this is best bet from his bibliography
The only one I can think of is Slay ride could 6 letters be wrong?
Stable?
long shot- manger as in stable -- i'm trying
Not sure that this quiz is suggesting the answer has to be an actual Dick Francis thriller, is it kathrob? I would have thought that it is what COULD be a seasonal setting for a Dick Francis thriller - so I concur with bongerman in that stable is the obvious answer.

Thanks everyone. It is definitely 6 letters so think it must be stable.

Couldn't it be the racing season, since he used to be a jockey, I believe?

No, geo0939, this is a Christmas quiz and there is nothing in 'racing' that would be suitable as a Christmas seasonal setting.

If you do not understand why this is stable, think of Jesus being born in a stable and, as you say, Dick Francis was a jockey so there is also a link to horses in the clue. Hope you get it now.

Unfortunately I noticed as soon as my suggestion was posted. I'm afraid I dont always check headings first. I was hoping no-one would notice. I'll try harder, but I'm a recent discoverer of this site. Don't be too hard on me.
