What is it with TV audiences these days? Why do they feel the need to scream and 'whoop' all the time? What happened to polite applause? It happens all the time these days. The soap awards last night were a prime example. It's probably just a typical example of the dumbing down and the lack of manners and intelligence of the general public nowadays.

I didn't bother to watch it. Eastenders always seems to win most of the
categories and that's one soap I cant stand! How did Corrie, Emmerdale and
Doctors do?
I can't watch any of those award shows, but I know what you mean.

The audience is 'encouraged' by the production people, the same as some game shows, sit coms and chat shows.
You're right - it's the Takeover of the Dumbs - an appalling trait imported from America.
total agree
the same on x factor where they seem to scream and whoop and CLAP all way through a performance
I agree canary, I don't watch The Voice of BGT because of all the screaming. Sadly Americanisms are here to stay.
The Soap Awards are like the political parties (btw have you been out in the rain to vote today?) - if you're not in 'the big 2' you don't stand much chance!!
Something else that has crossed the pond, worse luck.
Nothing to do with "soap awards" which I don't watch. BUT YOU ARE
SPOT-ON ABOUT AUDIENCE RACKET! We have to have hand-set ready to turn off sound. Have you noticed that on the cr*p programme "The Million Pound Drop", the "audience" emits the same annoying loud sound whether answer is right or wrong. Brit TV is not going but is already down the drain. Nothing worth watching apart from BBC2 - for the moment at least!
NOTE PROGRAMMERS ARE MORE STUPID THAN VIEWERS (I hope).
Isn't shrieking and screaming the default mode of most people on TV? One of the main instigators of this was St Davina de McCall. Who remembers the comments made when Judith Keppell won the first Millionaire, she didn't screech and hence was pilloried by the masses.
Its the same with Loose Women, the audience scream and howl but 90% of them are pensioners who come for a day out in organised coach trips but, I think its mostly canned recorded audience applause's for effect!
