What do you think is a reasonable charge for the following chores? (bear in mind they would be done by an 11 year old and 10 year old.

Washing a car
Cutting an average lawn
watering plants - outdoor ones while people are on holiday
feeding pets
sorting recycling/cleaning bins
running small errands e.g. newspaper/milk/bread

My kids need to earn some money towards a 3 week expedition to the USA with the Scouts next year and would be offering to do these jobs for friends and neighbours. Just want to get a bit of a straw poll so that they don't over or undercharge :o)

lol Jayne - you're generous - I'll send them down to you - can't see anyone round here paying that much :o)
ditto!
They're not slaves, annie.

And they're raising money for a good cause/

they are jayne as far as I am concerned, but there are loads of good causes and times are tight. We are giving up next years summer holiday and any prospect of a new kitchen for a while, but it's worth it for the experience the boys will have - ewarning money for it by themselves is part of the life lesson I want them to have. They are not perfect, but they are very good boys :o) Top marks in school, they haven't had a days absence from school since they were 6, neither of them have lost Golden Time ever (except when the teacher made a mistake, but I have a written apology for that!). So their bedrooms could do with being tidier and I get the odd bit of chatback and i'd like to see them eat more vegetables but overall they make me proud everyday
yay them !

Could they do a garage sale/car boot sale?
Washing a car - £6
Cutting an average lawn - £10
watering plants - outdoor ones while people are on holiday - £5 per water
feeding pets - £20 per week
sorting recycling/cleaning bins - £5
running small errands e.g. newspaper/milk/bread - £2 local shop

You could suggest the rates as minimum donations rather than prices, that way people might understand that they're supposed to be generous and not worry so much about the commercial rate for the job.
Question Author
thanks again guys - I am trying to choose a reasonable charge as I want it to be regular work rather than a one off. They have a year to earn as much as they can, though I hope that after the trip they will continue to do work if people want them to.
