This third world-style food aid seems to have come more into the news of late ..... benefit cuts and low wages mean "Making ends meet" gets more and more difficult for many famillies.....

Do any of or would any of you use these charity food banks or would you feel too proud to visit one....or give food to one?

They look to be well organized and seem like a good idea but the fact that we need them at all in these modern times doesn't actually make one proud to be Briitish....

Any thoughts?

If I'm struggling to afford food for just myself I probably wouldn't use one but if I had a family I needed to feed and couldn't afford to buy any food I wouldn't hesitate in using a food bank.
If my children were hungry, absolutely I would use one.

Luckily my reality is that this would never happen. My family would feed us.
I would use one if necessary. I don't think there is one anywhere near where I live though.
I've given tinned food to them as they collect outside the local supermarket .
No different to donating to a charity.
i have. we promoted one at work and loads of people came in an donated. its was at xmas time and we made an xmas treet out of food parcels

one of the weirder moments at work.

i think they are a great idea and i wouldn't hesitat to use one if i needed. and yes it does make me proud to be british, that there are good people out there who do what they can to help
I read an article in my local paper about a rise in users of our local food bank. I went to the website to find out how I could make a donation, I couldn't believe what I found.

"Donations should be adequate to feed a family of 4-6 and should be for complete meals."

Surely a list of of store cupboard staples and some long lasting fresh produce would be a better way forward? At least then there is no problem with allergies, intolerance, dislikes etc. And it gives those in need a choice and allows them some dignity.
I had a lot of stuff in my cupboard that I wasn't going to use but was all in date that all went.. a couple of carriers if I recall aright My heart grieved to say goodby to a number of my guilty pleasures Fray bentos pies I think there were 4 or 5 of them
