What about car insurance? Thats a rip off too - Swintons Ins shop rang and quoted £320 to renew last years, OH looked on net and Swintons online with same details/benefits costs £179 - so guess where we renewed! They should be totally ashamed. He told them at the shop and they seemed very apologetic and embarrassed, wonder how many more gullible people they conned?
Petrol £1.47 a litre, Bitter £1.69 a pint in my town . A 'Smith and Jones' pub. £2.80 to £3.10 in the other pubs. Next best price is 'Weatherspoons' at £1.80 pint but the nearest Weatherspoons is 15 miles away.
Asda has the cheapest petrol around my area, trouble is, we have to drive to get there!
WETHERSPOONS yes ?? i can see it from my place lol
asda cheapest here too
£1.49 per litre of diesel here!
Anyone who accepts a car insurance renewal price is just asking to be ripped off , in 41 years I have never had a renewal price that was not beaten significantly by shopping around. My last renewal quote was £630 I got it for £230 with a lower excess as well.
There was a big sign outside our petrol station this morning saying "Cheap Fuel" and it was £1.43!

I'm sick to death with it too and only wish I could boycot it, but I'm too reliant on the car unfortunately.
dick turpin was hung for highway robbery........................ its disgusting the way road users are ripped off, its about time those ministers in their ivory towers came back down to earth and spent some time as mere mortals paying their own way and not iving on the back of our hard earned taxes!!!
I agree with you Eddie and I provide no loyalty to car insurers anymore, but if that was the case for you, why were you paying £630 last year?

Ours are both under £200 now and have been for the last 5 years since I started comparing prices and cover online.
Don't you mean £1.39 in Blyth, Everhelpful. Asda. There's only one garage in Alnwick and it's been up at £1.44 for ages, long before the rest of the country. Captive consumers. Grr.
Don't get me started on fuel prices!!!!

A friend at work came in yesterday saying he had just filled and ONLY paid £1.44 per litre compared with £1.46 at further down the road. ONLY £1.44 !!!
Jeez!! It's Criminal!!

And what's with the 144.9 143.9 ? Has anyone ever seen .9 of a penny?
I will more than likely get called for this comment but who is to blame? everyone had their chance to protest of the Tax / Prices, how do you think the hauliers go on when they have to fill a double tank up? by the way it's around a hundred gallons or more in one fill, work that out.
But the protests made no difference TWR. I'd join another one tomorrow if you could see to that the government reduces the tax as a result.
If the government reduce the tax on fuel, they will have a bigger deficit, then we will lose our AAA rating , and this will make the french joyously happy.
we don't want happy french people, do we.
Percy
my OH says that his cider is now 4.10 per pint in our local. not going to drink there any more just staying at home as it is half the price.
If the government reduce the tax on fuel, they can opt to raise the difference in a more equitable manner.
