It would seem that Salford is more dangerous than London, so much so that the BBC are providing personal security guards to escort their staff to their cars and tram stops when they leave the new northern HQ in Salford.

I doubt it.

Media City is next to Old Trafford, Imperial War Museum and the Lowry Centre as well as hundreds of other businesses. All of which have been in operation for years without their 'Play Stations' being stolen.

I Imagine the area being inundated with gullible southern softies is giving the local characters a field day. They'll harden up.
there having a laugh surely, at licence payers expense. Having bikes nicked and someone taking a potshot with an air gun, yes can see that would go down well with Scotland Yard...
my company's northern office is not far from old trafford, and to reach their hotel of choice requires you to get off the tram at Pomona (a few stops short of media city).

despite the less-than-salubrious look of the neighbourhood I've never felt threatened in all the time i've been going there.

Last time I was there, the company I was visiting, in a smart premises on one of the old cotton wharves, had several bullet holes in the windows. Not exactly a warm feeling and reminiscent of visiting Detroit.

You move close to Man Utd, what do you expect?

perhaps they are jaded from working in the capital, which is not renowned for it's crime free zones, some i would say you wouldn't ever go into.
I think that it was a big mistake the BBC is offloading many of it's staff up north, many obviously didn't want to go, some are leaving because of the move, and it won't save a great deal in the long term.
There are many faces of Salford, grasshopper. Some are leafy and affluent, some will snot you one if you look at them. Anonymity and not wearing a rolex are the best armour. Not being a soft southern 'personality' is also handy.
As Mosaic says there are some lovely parts of Salford. It's just like any other city (or town), there are good parts and bad parts. Unfortunately Ordsall is one of the not so good parts and is just down the road from Media City.
Is was a complete waste of licence payers money moving the BBC to Salford. It was nothing more than a giant act of political correctness just to try and prove that the BBC was somehow a 'national' broadcaster and not just for the south. Absolutely idiotic. By the way, I am a 'northerner', ie from Yorkshire.
