Msgsrv32 error message ...worm associtated....how to get rid of?

in previous post here I got a response saying that the error message probably meant I had a non-destructive worm on my computer... googled and found software to get rid of it but they are all expensive (relatively) is there a way that I can get rid of it myself? by going into the registry and deleting it ....?

I'm not too sure about a worm having anything to do with msgsrv32 errors. These errors have been occurring on PCs for years and are usually just another symptom of poor software design by Microsoft rather than anything malicious.

If I'd got this problem, I'd probably take the easy way out and do an 'on-top' re-install of Windows. This is dead easy. (At least it is pre-XP. I use ME, so I don't know whether there are any problems associated with re-installing XP). You don't lose any software or data (although you might have to re-install your ant-virus software) and you end up with a nice 'clean' PC.

If you decide to go for this option but require instructions, please post again. (Just remeber that I don't claim any expertise with XP - although I believe that it's the same method. Also, I'd need to know whether you've got a boot floppy available).

thanks for the advice...situation is I was running win98se on it and then got the upgrade disc to ME...so now when I want to reinstall ME it reinstalls for a bit and then just hangs....

Oh dear. That sounds familiar! I've sometimes had to try re-installing ME several times before I've managed to get it to go all of the way. (Try running scandisk immediately prior to rebooting and attempting to re-install). Just once, I decided to bite the bullet and reformat the disk for a fresh installation. Even that took several attempts!

All of this could be related to damaged BIOS. My system gives a 3-1 beep code when I boot (or, occasionally, 3-2) and I understand that this indicates a BIOS fault. I've got two problems here, though. The first is that every computer I've ever owned has started producing odd BIOS beep codes within weeks of my purchasing it. (So, with my luck, if I fix it, it'll only happen again!). The second is that every website I've ever read about attempting to update the BIOS seems to suggest that trying to do so will result in drought, famine, plagues of locusts and the start of World War III !

So, listen to those beep codes but, if they're odd, please find someone more confident than me to help! Otherwise, I can only suggest that you keep trying to re-install ME.
