Hello all EV solvers,
Have ou all hibernated or are you a bit under the weather after the Xmas festivities. I need your help please.
I have solved most of the answers in the above except for 1, 21,and 32 across and 1 , 18, and 29 down . I have answers for the last two but do not know how to put them in.
I have found and located the three cells with clashes but have no idea how to represent them symbolically.
I have also found the two historical events hidden in the grid but am baffled of how to proceed in order to complete the puzzle.

With the three cells that clash, look at the ends/beginnings of the solutions to those clues and three clashes will appear. Then it's just a comparison of dates to get the round number.

Thank you Ulysses 100. By the time I had resd your e-mail I had realised that my three clashes were in the wrong place. Susequently I have finished nearly all save the clue 32a "estimates of small business scams", Can anyone solve this clue for me please.
Thank you in advance .
I would like to say Happy New Year to all EV solvers and successful solving in 2012 with all my best wishes.
I am baffled by the clashes that need to be symbolically represented. I know where the clashes are but do not understand the removal of groups of three letters from 6 clues before solving. For example, Loweswater and Floodgates. Any help?
Happy New Year all. This is from memory, but:
Shoni70, 32a is COSTINGS. Should help with an event in 1066.
Haggis58, there's a clue in where they intersect. So put in LOWESWATER until you run out of cells. The remaining five letters go in the intersecting cell. Put the first letter of FLOODGATES in. The next three go in the intersecting cell, then the last six cells are filled one each by the remainder. Think 1815

Thank you Turnerjmw. I had thought that costings was a suitable answer but did not see the connection you mentioned. Happy new year to you and many many thanks.
Thanks Turnerjmw. Have now resolved the clashes and have a completed grid bar 10ac: sa?eem. Can't find a word for this - any help? Also have the 'number' but do not know what symbolic representation to put in the three clashing cells. Please put me me out of my misery!
Haggis - for 10a - look in the first appendix - Chambers (11th Ed.)
For the symbol I used that found in OS maps.
Slaney - dont have 11th edition. Gave it away when i recently bought 12th edition.
Ahh - I've kept mine as I'm not sure I like the new edition all that much.
The unch is L - Arab name meaning safe secure.
Thanks Slaney. I must agree I prefer 11th edition - shouldnt have been so hasty in getting rid of it. Just need to work out the three cells to be symbolically represented. I keep thinking about 100,003 but just cant get the penny to drop.
I don't think 100,003 is relevant, Haggis. Just think of what the three are, and how you might symbolically represent them on a map.
Ok Slaney thanks - I've opted for the scissors. Still dont understand why this crossword is numbered 100,003.
All the online Telegraph crosswords for the 25th - cryptic Toughie etc. are numbered 100,003 - not sure why.
