Saxo handbrake

Pulled it up today and it made a clonk. It still works, but its a bit loose and i have to pull it up a bit further now before it takes affect. Whats wrong with it? Cheers

It may be a broken cable.
Were you still moving slightly when you pulled on it.
If you have disc brakes on the rear this is quite normal. It sounds bad but it is normal.
The distance you pull up might be OK when the brakes are cold.
You will not have damaged anything

Nope, I was stationary. Did sound like it had snapped. But surely it wouldnt work still if it had stoped?

Hi Gard, I don't know specifically for the saxo but on many cars there are two cables running from the handbrake, one to each side wheel with a pivot arrangement to equalise the pull on both sides, sounds like one of your cables has broken but the other is still working, so the lever lifts up more and it is only holding on one side wheel so the braking is probably much weaker now. Two new cables ASAP
