Old hard drive Q...part 2

As recommended a few days ago, i bought one of these Amazon.co.uk User Recommendation to retrieve some music and photos from an old hard drive.

connected the unit up as per destructions and all the lights worked where they should. Trouble is, I can't hear my hard drive going round and absolutely nothing happens on my puter screen.

Could the hard drive be stuck ? any suggestions ? I have power down to the hard drive and all connectors are pushed well in.

Many thanks

Not sure what you are doing. Are you trying to boot from the external drive or just look at it after booting from the internal drive ? I'd recommend the latter.
If you're sure the power switch for that drive is turned on (there are two, one for IDE, one for SATA) then it sounds like a faulty drive.

It seems to be working now but when i try to go into my disc management section, the bloody puter asks for a password....and my daughter has forgotten it !!!!!!!
You shouldn't need to go into disk management.

If the drive is readable it will appear as an extra drive in "my computer"... if it's not appearing there then there isn't a valid partition on the drive and getting anything off it is going to need a data recovery program, doing anything to it in disk management will just make recovery harder.

Thank you...i'll take it to the puter man down the road !!!
.. but Disc Management is a good pl;ace to look to see what it is doing .. It might just be a Dynamic disc .. easy to sort!
(or 'foreign' disc just needs introducing. That would sort it)
