May I suggest - as a remark of respect to those who have gone before us - we try to avoid posting or responding, during the Two Minute Silence?

It was even more moving for me this year, as i visited my G/dads grave in Ypre Belgium last year, and it brought it much closer to home for me.
May they all rest in peace x(1917)
Beautifully observed throughout most of AnswerBank.....:o)
Not all veterans and their families of the many military conflicts over the years choose to remember their loved ones and friends who were killed, in the manner of pageantry that we have seen today.
They may indeed prefer to reflect in less glamorous ways and they have many tales of bravery and sacrifice that go unheard.

Yes, I observed the two minute silence, yes, 3 of my sons served with Her Majesty's Forces, but i do feel that a thread on CB on this subject was unnecessary despite being started with the best of reasons.

It was a thought, swad - yes, perhaps unnecessary, but there might have been ABers who hadn't realised what time it was - etc. I'll say no more on the matter.
I observe the silence on Armistice Day.
You find many threads on CB unnecessary.

It ain't necessarily so....
boxy...;-).........I know!...I Know!
JTH...logical answer................I suppose.
Your view, sqad, however, it was a polite and genuine request from Boxtops for ABers to respect the time and, therefore, meaningful.

Personally, I did not wear a poppy - I do not feel that I should, I made a donation though and that is what I think is appropriate. The point is each of us makes our reflections in the manner we think fit.

Although I wouldn't decry anything what happens today on Rememberance day, throughout the rest of the year, I do feel that we Brits do overegg WW2 (for example why is Dads Army shown for the nth time) and not enough on the other conflicts where Brits and Commonwealth (and others) have lost their lives/been seriously wounded. For example, Korea comes to mind as well as other spats around the globe......
In Sainsburys on Friday, very very busy, suddenly everything stopped, tills silent and not a movement anywhere. One or two didn't catch on right away so boxi nice to be reminded.
It was very moving
and thank you
Can't even spell - Remembrance....apologies
DT...I know boxy well and i respect her postings, but my post was just to indicate that people may object to being reminded, particularly as it ran against their particular philosophy of remembrance.

Nothing against boxy, just putting "the other side of the coin"
Question Author
That's what was said earlier on in the thread, though, sqad ...
Boxy....you mean Nox's thread?

Yepp, I suppose it was.
Question Author
Yes, and jth's, but I took the point. No prob, each to their own.
The looks in the eyes of the ex soldiers says it all Boxi, it was well covered.
