Do You think its right that these animal shelter places charge for the animals? for instance, battersea dogs home charge £109 if you have a dog from them. does this not stop some "not so well off dog lovers" from adopting an animal?
its certainly stopping me.

We got our Dobie bitch from a rehomer 2 yrs ago, they wanted £50, I gave them £75 as I was getting an animal that would have cost me £700 bought as a puppy, and to be fair they have a lot of expense involved in looking after other unhomed animals.
I paid nearly £100 for my boy from local RSPCA and for that he was neutered as well and microchipped (as RSPCA won't allow dogs to be rehomed without being spayed or neutered). If you can't afford this, you can't afford a dog and all the expense that comes with it. RSPCA have their overheads in keeping dogs and cats for as long as poss in order for them to find a home. My lovely dog was in there for six months before we found each other.
