Help please with my new Kindle before smash it!

I have just got the newest kindle, and I am struggling to register it. I have Total Broadband from BT with wi-fi. The kindle has wi-fi. I can't seem to connect it. I am a bit of a trog when it comes to this sort of thing, so if anyone can help (please) can they put it in very basic terms?

I have AVG security

Have you pressed the menu key after turning it on ?

You do have to hold the power switch down for quite a few seconds.

At the risk of incurring your wrath smart1, have you tried reading the booklet that comes with it? They usually have a trouble shooting section in them.

No Craft that switches it off you should just press and release

PS @ Boo - there isn't a booklet - you need to register the device for access to the user guide on the kindle itself.

If like me , you find it one of the most frustrating things you've ever used with fiddly yet cumbersome controls, do what i did and pack it up and send it back for a refund.
