Because i haven´t had to use it for several months.
so i took this advice, but found it doesnt work, because in the always save i havent got micrcosoft word options.
help!
incidentally i have open office.org 3

Incidentally, you can set the program to always create Word compatible documents by doing the following:

Click Tools/Options
In the left pain, expand the Load/Save section
Click on General
In the "Default file format" section:
Select the document type as "Text document"
In the "Always save as" section, select one of the 4 Microsoft Word options
Click OK

Libre Office, from the same code is far superior when it comes to MS Office compatability.
Question Author
bazwillrun, how do you download?
what should i click on?
the webpage isnt very clear.
In OpenOffice just select the 'save as .doc' format for Word compatibilty
On the Libre Office page about halfway down

by the third big green tick about halfway down the page

ibO_3.4.3_Win_x86_install_multi.exe 189 MB

I've just been using Libre because it does things that MS Office cant, like drop caps in text boxes
Did I forget to mention it also does multiple text columns in text boxes !

Brilliant piece of kit, I'm even using it for some things that i have previously used Adobe Indesign for.

Dont get me wrong Open Office is good but not as good as Libre and the way things are going I think Libre will get more support and backing etc
If you have Microsoft Works v 7 or above it will save and read Word docs.
Most pcs ship with Works.
If you don't need a full blown office suite then that is a good basic word processor.
"i havent got micrcosoft word options. "

The drop-down list only shows five items at a time. You need to use the scroll bar on the right, to see the other options.
